Bridged Bicyclic Compounds and their Derivatives as Neuroprotective Agents


These novel compounds possess unique molecular features and exhibit neuroprotective effects as evidenced in Drosophila melanogaster, a fruit fly model. The compounds were also subjected to a post-synaptic transmission assay. Of the compounds tested, two compounds demonstrated potent neuroprotective properties relative to resveratrol. One of disclosed compounds provided extended time to synaptic failure by approximately 100 minutes. Another compound allowed the synapse under study to maintain 80% of its normal function even under declining oxidative conditions.
